A crochet bouquet is an arrangement project as much as a stitch project. The flowers may be made one at a time, but the final result depends on proportion, colour and how the stems sit together. Use this guide to plan the arrangement before you tie the final knot.

Start with a simple bouquet plan
Choose one focal flower, two supporting flowers and a leaf or filler shape. Three related colours are usually easier to balance than many unrelated colours. Sketch the bouquet from the front and side so you can see which stems need to be shorter.
Make the flowers in groups
- Rose overview: use this as the main flower reference.
- Large petals: build height and volume in the focal flower.
- Middle petals: adjust the fullness without changing the yarn colour.
- Leaves: give the bouquet direction and visual spacing.
Keep a small note of the number of rounds and petals in each flower. That makes it easier to repeat a colour combination without guessing.
Shape stems before arranging
Finish the flower heads first. Add stems only after you know the bouquet’s height. Test the arrangement with the stems loose, then secure the group from the centre outward. This keeps the focal flower visible and avoids a tight bundle at the base.
Use colour and height together
Place the brightest colour near the centre, then repeat a quieter colour near the edges. Alternate tall and short stems so the bouquet does not become a flat row. If the arrangement will sit in a pot, leave enough stem length to anchor it without pressing the flower heads together.
Finish and check the bouquet
- Turn the bouquet slowly and inspect it from every side.
- Trim or re-seat stems that cross the focal flower.
- Secure loose yarn tails inside the stems or at the base.
- Compare the finished arrangement with the flower tutorials category for a next flower to add.
